I have noticed several street food shops are becoming so popular. Almost every evening, scores of local customers flood the tables craving for food.
To do offer the best they can, shop owners always intend to serve as fast as they can. Once customers sit down, plates are placed on the tables being ready to place the coming food. Plates cleaners are hired to clean the plates as fast as they can. The more plates they can clean, the better.
They are very efficient. Every 3 minutes , many plates are ready for serving the customers. Here, you can see that the efficiency is increased.
The story has not ended yet. I come to visit this type of restaurants many times. I see more and more people come to consume the meals. One evening, I sat down and the plates arrived a few seconds after. As I looked at the plates closely, I could see particles of leftover food from the previous customers. I felt shocked. Here , the plates cleaners are not effective with their jobs. They are efficient when they can clean a lot of plates within short period of time, they are not effective when the plates are not completely clean.
Jeff Davidson , the author of "Getting Things Done" said if you run an automatic auto washing business, it would be no advantage if the process of cleaning is so slow and very few cars are washed (inefficient) . However, it would be deleterious for your business when the cleaning service is not well-done (ineffective)
In life, we are so busy. Things keep us so busy. We always wish to be efficient with our time, yet, we forget that our time being used is whether effective or ineffective.
Should we begin to live our life using our time more efficiently and effectively?
